Back me

Race experience helped 1 Angelica (Bet now: $4.20) to win at Morphettville on Saturday and I’ll rely on that to get her here. She dominated the small field at the weekend and her racing behavior was very good, while those at the back were doing everything wrong, so she was left alone and was too good. He has a good early spike so he should find the forerunner and is hard to beat.

Danger

2 Abstracted (Bet now: $3.20) is a debuting daughter of Territories for James Cummings. She has had several trials in Sydney to prepare for the first and has caught the eye each time, the last seeing her run second to the Magic Millions sleeper Flying Trapeze. The stable is flying in Victoria and has leading rider, B Shinn to drive, so she has a little bit behind her.

Long shot

4 Croatian Belle (Bet now: $3.60) is a Hayes-trained Brazen Beau filly just getting started. Jumped a few times at Flemington to start one, last seen sitting on the speed and when asked to try she responded nicely and did a good job. If gate one is used to advantage, I think it has proven itself enough to bring it out on debut, but watch the market.

Race 2. (18:45) Tote Bar & Dining Mdn Plate 1200m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

2 Mugen (Bet now: $3.50) is short enough, but I think it’s the right way to go. On his midweek debut at Sandown, where he was almost rushed and tested his mettle, he failed to get there when Zouthur beat him to the lips. A tricky gate to overcome, but if he is able to land in place and cover, he is clearly the one to beat.

Danger

5 Read my lips (Bet now: $4.80) is the main and possibly the only threat to Mugen. Son of Rubick for Team Hayes making his debut. He looked beaten at Kyneton on Thursday but was scratched and runs here instead. His jump work at Flemington was quite encouraging and he should be able to land a plum spot from the first gate and prove a worthy match for Mugen.

Long shot

3 The power of fire (Bet now: $4.50) probably lacks the abilities of the first pair, but gets a kind map and B Shinn on board, so it has a few ticks. He continued over 1000m at Bendigo and was solid despite seemingly having every chance behind Imasuperstar. If the inside gate is used to advantage, I think the top four will run. I’m just not sure it can win unless it’s a biased deck.

Race 3. (19:15) Summer M’ship Now on sale – 70 Bm 3000 m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

5 Alienated (Bet now: $17.00) has a great record at The Valley and is a two-time track/distance winner, so he’s an every-way bet for me. He ran in the Jericho Cup and I thought he was far from an embarrassing defeat given how far he got in the run behind Bastida. Few will be suspicious at 3000m, while he will be strong late and with claims quite good in the weights.

Danger

1 Platinum Spirit (Bet now: $3.60) looks to be fine at 3000m and is the winner of the last starting lane. That win came two weeks ago when he was sitting and waiting under B Shinn, just waiting for the gaps to appear and when they did, he went out and was dominant. More depth here I feel, and cartoon complex, but hard to knock as it goes at the moment.

Long shot

10 Eaton (Bet now: $20.00) is one for wider multiples. He ran 2,500m here two weeks ago where he was off the pace and despite being a beaten horse before the turn he held on and was solid in defeat behind one of the main rivals here, Platinum Spirit. Interesting that C Williams is holding on and should land near the front of the gate which gives a lot. The first four applicants.

Race 4. (19:45) Absolute Plants&Landscapes-C1 2040m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

1 So unusual (Bet now: $1.85) should eat 2040 and I’m awake. The McEvoy trained ex-Kiwi has had two Australian runs, the most recent being over 1800m at Sandown last Wednesday and he was up to the task really well when second behind Rick’s Cafe who had full momentum and a better foundation. This guy has it all upside down and races like he’s eating up extra ground. Very hard to beat.

Danger

2 Reigate (Bet now: $14.00) has had a couple of runs over the mile and I think he’s looking for more ground to gain here. He ran the last mile on Werribee Cup day and looked $1.10 in the run as he went, but once he eased up and let down he was very much one step to the line so I think the 2040m will be ideal for him and this race overall it is on the thin side.

Long shot

Fitter and up to 2040m are two big ticks for the trained Cindy Alderson 5 Manco Man (Bet now: $23.00). He continued over 1500m at Mornington where he was well back in the running but made a good lead in a pleasing comeback behind One For Rocky. He might want one more, but he’s comfortable with the increase in trip and the stable finds Blake Shinn to drive, so he has some big ticks in the corner.

Race 5. (20:15) Daemco (Bm64) 1600m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

I’m hoping for a fair track because if that happens I’ll be happy to come back 2 Spanish steak (Bet now: $12.00) each way. Spotted on the restart over 1400m at Bendigo where he dropped back to near last in the run and, although never a threat, fell short of Saturday’s metro winner Electric Bell. A good record at The Valley and the pace should be real so he’ll get a chance to finish over the top on a fair track.

Danger

6 Royal Amazon (Bet now: $3.60) came back in super form for Phillip Stokes. A really eye-catching sight at Bendigo behind No Drama before going to Cranbourne where he looked in dire trouble on the turn but Mott put in 12/10 to weave through the field and ride hard late on to win. He should come up and with good speed up front will last if they can run on.

Long shot

1 Master Bartholdi (Bet now: $14.00) will land on speed and it will be hard to come down. He tried to lead last time in the Tatura Cup and put in a solid kick but couldn’t quite finish it off in fourth behind Turbeau. It reads pretty well for what is a moderate 64 and with its racing pattern fits The Valley. Just a light question about a mile, but he will look.

Race 6. (20:45) 30Xy Group (Bm70) 1000m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

Quite happy here 10 Pinnation (Bet now: $2.70). James Cummings trained the mare to go on at Kyneton where Kersley placed her in a plum place and once she got clear air and pushed the button on her it was race over and she was plenty too. Devil’s Fiddle came out of that race to win last week so the form reads well and I think a fast 1000m run will be perfect, especially with J Kah driving.

Danger

4 Boss Lady Rocks (Bet now: $5.00) jumps on the bunny and looks for a winner for a good chunk of the race. She ran just under a fortnight back at Pakenham Cup Day where she was almost on the pace and tried hard but was unable to finish behind Najem Suhail. He tends to save his best for the Valley and draw gate one, he thinks he’ll lead them up and give a bold look.

Long shot

11 Invincible (Bet now: $31.00) will be strong late if they overdo it with speed. She continued this journey three weeks back at Cranbourne where she was back on the run and was never a threat but was solid to the line late in the stretch behind Cotel. A good record in second place and despite a tricky gate she will have enough speed up front to have a chance to finish hard late.

Race 7 (9.15pm) Ladbrokes 55 Second Chall-Bm64 955m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

9 The moon and back (Bet now: $5.50) is tricky flying for Andrew Noblet and with clear air I think he can handle it. Two weeks ago she ran a race at 955m and looked absolutely fired up, ready to explode, but at no stage did she get any fresh air and was an ugly watch if you were on… and yes, I was on her. J Allen is taking over and I think if he can get out at the right time he can fire and finish over the top.

Danger

3 Mir (Bet now: $3.00) looks like a real short track, so 955m should be ideal for him. He came to town having won a smacking job in the 1000m at Mornington last time where he was on the pace throughout before McLeod picked him up and went away, also running a decent time. He has the initial speed to get over the tricky gate and the stable flies.

Long shot

2 Meteorite (Bet now: $9.00) has previously lit up 955m, so his best performance is certainly good enough. The first run for Andrew Bobbin came two weeks back here in the 955m when he was back in the running and failed to start when on the track behind Mutinous. He races best when he jumps and runs, so if that happens I think he will run a much better race.

Race 8. (21:45) Dynamic Print Group Hcp (C1) 1000m

*The above offers may only be available to selected customers.

Back me

3 Sparring (Bet now: $5.00) for me to get out in every way. The Ron Stubbs-trained gelding looked morale when he resumed at Canberra but found nothing in the straight after leading and was awful. Too bad it’s true and the vet confirmed it after the race, the horse retired with cardiac arrhythmia. The tick over trial was very sharp and it’s a city class when he’s right. It should push forward and prove tough to beat.

Danger

6 Wrapped (Bet now: $3.00) is a Team Hawkes trained gelding that continues. He hasn’t raced since his first win in August when he got the peach from Pike and rode hard late to win. Love horses that come out of preparation and go for a win and his trial work at the front was strong so watch the market with him to see if he tells you if he’s ready to go. Suspect it is.

Long shot

1 Bazinga Bazinga (Bet now: $7.00) lands at the front and runs a gutsy race. He continued on the home deck at Mornington over 1000m producing sustainable speed from the front and although he faltered late he was too sharp and too good for them. The last bit will be a test, but this stable should be respected when they come to town and has the right racing pattern.

BEST BET: Race six number 10 Pinnace
