Last year’s winner Art Cadeau will defend his title at this year’s The Kosciuszko after being selected by a Hurlstone Park TAB customer for the $2 million race.
Introduced by Racing New South Wales in 2018, Kosciuszko has four different winners to date… Belfyler in 2018, Handle The Truth in 2019, Its Me in 2020 and Art Cadeau in 2021.
The four previous winners were ridden by different jockeys for different trainers… so trainer Terry Robinson and Art Cadeau now look to make a piece of history if the six-year-old gelding can salute again to become The Kosciuszko’s first back-to-back winner.
Relatively lightly raced six-year-old Art Cadeau has raced eight times since winning at The Kosciuszko in 2021, with one win (at Randwick at $14) and two places, improving his overall record to seven in that time. wins and eight places from twenty starts with prize money of $1.4 million.
The Kosciuszko field is limited to fourteen starters, with the final line-up nominated by lucky ticket holders with numbers drawn in the Kosciusko Lottery following widely publicized race promotion.
These ticket numbers were announced today, obviously causing some celebration and excitement among those ticket holders now queuing up to share in The Koscousko race prizemoney.
The Kosciuszko, the world’s richest race for domestically trained horses (NSW and ACT trained horses only), is a 1200m sprint event under set weights and penalty conditions, which will be run on the same day as The TAB Everest at Royal Randwick on Saturday October 15, 2022.
