She Dances completed a hat-trick of wins to claim the VOBIS Gold Carat at Moonee Valley

Trainer Peter Moody has more than 2,650 wins and 56 Group 1 victories to his name, but he doubts whether She Dances at Moonee Valley’s success gave him that much satisfaction.

She Dances led the way to win the VOBIS Gold Carat (1200m) on Saturday, completing a hat-trick of victories.

Moody said he got the satisfaction of winning Saturday’s event for a pairing that includes Frank Sedgman, the former number one tennis champion who has won five Grand Slam singles titles and 22 Grand Slam doubles titles.

“What an honor to win a race for one of Australia’s greatest athletes who is still with us,” Moody said.

“He’s 95 years old and it was the highlight of my life when I met Frank a few years ago.

“His youthfulness at his age is unbelievable and the joy he gets when he sees this filly is phenomenal.

“It’s one of the highlights of my career to win a race for Frank Sedgman, one of the great Australians.

She Dances, who sent the $3.10 favorite under Linda Meech, led throughout and made it 2-½ wins from Boldinho ($7) and Fasuto ($3.30), who was three-quarters of a length third.

After winning four of six races and nearly $340,000 in prize money, Moody said she will now look to win a “black type,” or placement, to increase She Dance’s potential value as a broodmare.

He said the filly may now have deserved a little break before being brought back towards the end of autumn.

She Dances completed a treble for Moody on Saturday having previously scored with Dance To Dubai in the Raymond Martin Handicap (1200m) and River Noire in the Ladbrokes Mates Mode Handicap (1200m).

The Treble gave Moody 14 metropolitan winners for the month of December.

“It’s a reward for the effort,” Moody said.

“I have a great group of loyal staff at home and I have a great group of clients who supported my return to the sport two and a half years ago.

“They are horses that came into the yard as yearlings in basically our first season and are stepping up and doing the job.

“It’s nice to win races with horses that have been through the system, not out of the system.

“There is great satisfaction.
